Developing Good Habits

We encourage that you help your student to develop good habits early in the school year.  Listed below are a few suggestions to help you start the year off right:

  • Establish an appropriate bedtime so that your student is well rested and ready for school each day
  • Set up a quiet work area for your student to do their homework daily
  • Read together daily; this is necessary for your student to develop into a proficient reader
  • Send a nutritious snack for snack recess and a sack lunch, lunch money, or have your student use lunch debit card that you have already placed money on (https://www.mymealtime.com/signin.aspx )
  • Label all coats, sweaters, etc. with student’s name
  • Help your child keep their desk organized by sending only requested supplies to school

Classroom Volunteers

Classroom Volunteers

Classroom volunteers are very much appreciated and welcome to help in our class.  However, all volunteers must first ensure they have completed the online volunteer clearance through "Be A Mentor".  This applies to any type of volunteers, even for classroom celebrations. If you have completed a clearance last year, it should still be in place, as long as you have updated your current auto insurance (for driver volunteers).  For parents that have not yet completed the online process, it takes just a few minutes to fill out, via a link on our school website; use the link for volunteer management system.  Our class schedule, for volunteer sign ups, will be available the second week of school. Our class will use the Sign-up Genius system.  I know your time is valuable and I appreciate your support.

About Mrs. Sheila Kaufman

2nd grade 004.jpg

I am excited to start the new school year with your child in my class! Here is a little bit about me.

This is my 20th year teaching at Tassajara Hills, 12 years in Kindergarten! Before my children were born, I taught 3rd grade for 2 years in Long Beach. After staying home with my children for 10 years, I came back to teaching here at Tassajara Hills. My family and I have lived in Danville for 27 years and my children attended schools in the SRVUSD. Michelle went to the University of Washington and Michael went to University of California at Davis. They are 30 year old twins and are in their eighth  year of their careers! Michael is an Operations Manager at Amazon Web Services in San Francisco , Michelle a vice president for AlixPartners in San Francisco, and her husband is a Research Analyst at Franklin Templeton in San Mateo. They are proud parents of their first child Carson, so yes, I am a Grandma! My husband Russ is in his seventh year of retirement from 33 years with Chevron and makes wine ! We have been married for 34 years! We like to travel, walk, read,  enjoy friends and family.

I look forward to getting to know you and your child this year in second grade!

About Mrs. Evi Gill

I am so honored to be your child's second grade teacher! I know that we are going to have an amazing year full of a lot of love, fun, and growth! I look forward to getting to know you and the students but in the meantime I'll tell you a little about myself.

I graduated from the University of California, Davis with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Education. After my undergraduate education, I attended graduate school at the University of California, San Diego where I earned my Elementary Teaching Credential and Master's Degree in Education.

I have been teaching for over twelve years and have taught in a variety of grade levels from kindergarten to fourth grade. I’ve taught at Tassajara Hills for several years now.  Last year Mrs. Kaufman and I had a wonderful year team teaching together in second grade and I feel so fortunate to be able to teach together again for another year!

My husband is a software engineer for Linden Lab in San Francisco and our son will be 2 years old in August! When I’m not in the classroom, I enjoy staying busy with yoga, hiking, walks, traveling, moms’ groups, toddler music class, and various other activities with my husband, son, and our dog Maddi. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year with you and your child!  Please feel free to contact me for any reason.
