Announcements

Happy November! There is a lot to be thankful for at our school. We will be spending some time talking about this together and I encourage you to do so at home too.

We are learning new things every day. Ask your student to share something exciting or interesting from the week.

If you have any questions or concerns, please be sure to contact me.

What's Going On In Class?

* CURSIVE- Our third graders will begin learning cursive this year. We will focus on one or two letters per week.

* GRAMMAR/WORD WORK- Each week we will focus on one grammar rule. We are working on nouns and pronouns right now. Students will be placed in leveled groups throughout the whole 3rd grade for word work and spelling this year. Each week will focus on a different spelling sound or pattern.

* VOCABULARY- Every few weeks, students will learn 10 new vocabulary words. They will work with the definition of the words, how to use them in sentences, and more. Our most recent lessons have been on words that are synonyms.

* MATH- We are working on Module 2- Place Value and Problem Solving with Units of Measure. This includes telling time, measurement, adding, subtracting, rounding, and estimation. Everyday we will work on problem solving and inquiry related to math.

* READING- We are working on a unit about Getting to Know Characters. Students are choosing "just right" fiction books at their individual level. Together, we are reading Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo and getting to know the main character, Opal. For a fun read aloud, we are listening to No Talking by Andrew Clements.

* WRITING- In writing, we are writing true stories about ourselves. We are also writing a fun Halloween fiction story.

* SCIENCE- Our first unit will be on Forces and Magnets.

* SOCIAL STUDIES- We will be learning about Danville history and our community this year. We are learning about Native Californians that lived in Danville thousands of years ago.

* TECHNOLOGY- We will be busy using our 3rd grade iPads and Google Chrome Books: writing with Microsoft Word, Internet research, Typing Club, and more!
