Well, it is getting to be close to that time… the NEW school year! I know some of you are groaning right now, especially if your summer seemed too short. We still have time to play, though!

GOOGLE CLASSROOM

Hello Students and Families,

I have opened a science google classroom for each 5th grade class. Please sign in to it on a regular basis to check for announcements, assignments, and fun activities.

TASSAJARA HILLS STEM CLUB

Exciting news!!!

STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math

The STEM club will be announcing its new schedule soon.

SCIENCE ALLIANCE

Science Alliance is a science club open to all fifth grade students  in the district. Fifth grade students at Tassajara Hills Elementary  are paired with a mentor from Monte Vista High School to develop and execute a science experiment that follows the steps in the Scientific Method.

It is a very competitive club since there are always  more fifth grade students than high school mentors available.  I will communicate information to the fifth grade teachers and update information on my website.

IMPORTANT DATES ANNOUNCED:

Welcome to San Ramon Valley Science Alliance!

Mission Statement: To boldly go where few 5th graders

have gone before...

TBA...waiting for the Science Alliance students to post the new parent meeting dates.

 Please check back again soon.

GARDEN CLUB

The Tassajara Hills Garden Club is now open to fourth and  fifth grade students who enjoy planting and growing herbs, flowers, and plants.  Permission slips are in the science lab and office.  We will take a maximum of 25 students.

The THE Garden Club meets the first and third Monday of each month. This year we will begin on September 18, 2017.

Students join me in the science lab at 3:15 where we have a short lesson and then onto the garden to harvest, weed, take soil core samples, soil temperatures and learn about gardening.

If you are interested please fill out the permission slip and return to Ms. Erola.

Thank you!!! Ms. Ertola

Welcome to the Science Lab

Welcome Back to the Science Lab

Hello Tassajara Families and Students!!!

Welcome to the 2017-2018 School year.  My name is Lynne Ertola and I am the science lab teacher for grades 1 - 5.  My first, second, and third grade students will come to the science lab once a week.  My fourth and fifth grade students join me in the science lab twice a week.

I  believe the science lab should support the material learned in the primary classroom by hands-on, inquiry based experiments and investigations.  Students will be studying three main units in each grade level: Earth Science, Physical Science, and Life Science.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me via email at lertola@srvusd.net or my classroom phone 925-855-7826.

It's going to be a great year learning about science and practicing our science lab skills.
