Developing Good Habits

I encourage you to help your student develop good habits early in the school year.  Listed below are a few suggestions to help you start the year off right:

  • Establish an appropriate bedtime so that your student is well rested and ready for school each day
  • Set up a quiet work area for your student to do their homework daily
  • Read together daily; this is necessary for your student to develop into a proficient reader
  • Send a nutritious snack for morning recess and a sack lunch, lunch money, or have your student use a lunch debit card that you have already placed money on by clinking the link .
  • Label all coats, sweaters, etc. with student’s name
  • Help your child keep their desk organized by sending only requested supplies to school

Classroom Volunteers

Classroom volunteers are very much appreciated and welcome to help in our class.  However, all volunteers must first ensure they have completed the online volunteer clearance through "Be A Mentor".  This applies to any type of volunteers, even for classroom celebrations. If you have completed a clearance last year, it should still be in place, as long as you have updated your current auto insurance (for driver volunteers).  For parents that have not yet completed the online process, it takes just a few minutes to fill out, via a link on our school website; use the link for volunteer management system.  Our class schedule, for volunteer sign ups, will be available the second week of school. Our class will use the Sign-up Genius system.  I know your time is valuable and I appreciate your support.

E2 Weekly Update

November 9, 2018

Hello Parents!

We had a another great week here in E2. Our kids thoroughly enjoyed learning about, honoring and celebrating veterans during the Veteran's Day assembly put on by our very own 5th graders on Wednesday. It was a wonderful experience with great music and special guests! Thank you to everyone who is currently serving or has served in our armed forces.

This week 2nd graders have practiced very hard each day to work on their mental math and tackle problems such as 28 + 19 by adding a 1 to make a 20 and taking it from the 28 to create 27 + 20. We decided we could always double check our answers even if we were positive that we had the right answer by using place value disks! We also dove right into subtraction as well, learning to 'unbundle' when necessary! Thank you parents for all your support at home with week with the homework papers. You all ROCK!

This week students started their I’m Thankful For… writing assignment. It is a great way for them to slow down and really think about what they are grateful for. We brainstormed together to think deeply about what and who we care about. We can’t wait to read them to one another at our Greatful Gathering next Friday.

After Thanksgiving we will go to the computer lab with our timeline worksheet from our homework for a special timeline making project. Timeline worksheet will come home in homework folders next week. This week in grammar students learned about commas in letter writing. We practiced commas in dates, greetings and closings Unit 6 this week focused on vowel-consonant-e words and the /z/ sound.

To celebrate Thanksgiving this year we are going to keep things low key. Students will be sharing their essays. Afterwards we will be making a Friendship Trail Mix together then watching Charlie Brown Thanksgiving as a class. The only parent participation we need is to help your child fill and return their ziplock with the assigned snack. Thank you so much for your help!

Have a great long weekend, everyone! NO SCHOOL MONDAY!

Sincerely,

Ms. Stockman

Parenting Speaker Series: “Time to Parent”

Join us for a presentation & book signing of Time to Parent by Julie Morgenstern on Wednesday, Nov. 14 from 7-9pm at California High School.  Balancing one's time between raising a human and being a human is not easy. Parents often feel divided, stretched thin, and guilty because whatever their focus is in a given moment, they feel like they're neglecting something else. The author will discuss how to systematically tackle the job of parenting by simplifying it, organizing it and applying concrete strategies to keep all the balls in the air. The payoff? Plenty of space for quality time with their kids and for themselves.  For more information and to register, please go to SRVCPTA's Parenting Speaker Series.

All About Ms. Stockman

Hello! Welcome to 2nd grade and to the new school year.

I am so excited for another wonderful year at Tassajara Hills Elementary!  I look forward to an amazing year full of exploration, fun, and growth! Here's a little bit about me.

I graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Multicultural Studies. After my undergraduate education, I attended graduate school at the Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont where I earned my Elementary Teaching Credential and Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

I have been teaching for 7 years and have taught in a variety of grade levels from kindergarten to fourth grade in the bay area.  I am a bay area native, growing up in Half Moon Bay, living in the city for school, and then moving to the East Bay after I married my husband three years ago.

When I’m not in the classroom, I enjoy staying busy with cooking, traveling, yoga, hiking, reading, and entertaining my friends and family at my home.

I look forward to working with you to have a fantastic year in second grade!
